Originally released as part of the 3CD edition of "City: Works of Fiction" in 2014, this standalone release compiles alternate takes, extended sessions, and edits into a cohesive whole that reveals the depth of Hassellโs futuristic vision. Drawing inspiration from Chuck Dโs Bomb Squad collages and Teo Maceroโs legendary tape edits for Miles Davis, "Psychogeography" presents a kaleidoscopic fusion of sci-fi funk, dub pressure, and electric jazz that feels as relevant today as it did over three decades ago.
Remastered by Stefan Betke (Pole), the eleven pieces hover between the street and the stratosphere, swirling with Hassellโs signature trumpet tone and nocturnal atmospheres. Tracks like "Aerial View" and "Neon Night (Rain)" drift through spectral urban landscapes, while the heavyweight shuffle of "Cityism Superdub" and the sunlit sway of "Cuba Libre" showcase his deft command of rhythm and mood. The raw intimacy of "Favela" contrasts with the deep-space echoes of "Emerald City" and the haunting drift of "Cloud-Shaped Time," all of which prefigure the jazz-infused electronics of future generations.
"Psychogeography (Zones Of Feeling)" is both an essential companion to "City" and a fully realized work in its own right โ a testament to Hassellโs radical soundworld where geography, memory, and imagination dissolve into one seamless, cinematic flow.
