𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨, 𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 — Strings captures the first-ever meeting between David Maranha and Stephan Mathieu, recorded live at the Parque de Serralves tennis court in Porto, July 2011.

Working with violin, shruti-box, and virginals, the two artists shape a single, extended improvisation rooted in shared minimalism but with a distinct voice of its own. The tones rise and waver, unfolding slowly across the quadraphonic system, allowing environmental sounds — gusts, birds, distant voices — to bleed into the music.

The result is less a performance than a listening space: fluid, meditative, and alive to its surroundings. Strings stands as a quiet but resonant document of intuitive collaboration and sonic patience.
