Fresh from the precious Naarm milieu, Acopia chase a certain ‘90s dragon of melancholic songwriting urged by slacker downbeats, breaks and tremulous guitars saddled with world weary vocals. It is a clearly introspective reflection on “emotional distance, unresolved feelings, and the weight of things left unsaid,” and deftly steers the path between depressive succour and wistful sentiments with a balance of emotive weight and buoyant, beat-driven levity.

This one’s the closest we’ve come to Aussies channelling teen soap Heartbreak High, nailing a sort of teenaged and young adult feel in their nostalgic melodies and shuffling grooves, as Kate Durman glydes over the jangling charm ‘Talk About It’, and more hopefully romantic swoon of ‘See You in Everyone’ or pastoral pop of ‘Falter’, to a standout of sharp cut breaks and synths recalling Sneaker Pimps on ‘Falling’, to channel The Cure in ‘Chase Me’ and shrug it all off in ‘Last Word’.
