Founded by Lee Stevens and expanded into a full collective including Ken Hayakawa and various guest musicians, Rising Seed approaches sampling with a deep commitment to instrumental authenticity. Drawing from house, hip-hop, cinematic soul and world music traditions, the record finds common ground between 90s electronica and psychedelic jazz motifs.

From the break-driven jazz-funk of “Follow Me” to the bluesy dub haze of “Like A Lion,” every track balances analog grit with harmonic detail. “Gone West” blends sitar, harmonica and a four-on-the-floor rhythm into a dusty house hybrid, while “Freedom” and “Soldier of Peace” strip things down into heady downbeat with nods to early big beat and Kruder & Dorfmeister's Vienna sound.

The LP’s closing stretch dives into meditative jazz-chords and swirling atmospheres—“Psych Jazz” and “Stay With Me” forming a slow-motion coda. True Lies plays like an unearthed beat tape from the golden era of abstract electronica, made for both close listening and heavy-lidded dancefloors.
