Out of earshot for a minute, Voices From the Lake regroup around familiar aquatic themes on the satisfyingly immersive ‘II’. Signature Italian sound sensitivity and attention to spatialized detail meets subtle rhythmic urges for an hour of slowed, aquaplaning groove and crystal clear tones that dive off from deep ends of ‘80s new age ambient, and its ‘90s techno descendants, into an elemental sound world idealised for horizontal listening - or perhaps a slinky eyes-shut bop, if the mood takes.

It’s all too easy to slip into anodyne flotation tank waft within this realm, but the finely attuned sensitivities of Dozzy & Neel buoy this one, like their previous, to a point of usefulness as meditation aid and ambient music that harmonises with the background of whatever space it’s projected into. Blessed with restraint yet richly resonating across the frequency spectrum, the 10 tracks flows naturally from the stealthily unfolding envelopes of ‘Eos’ thru properly charming offbeat pulses in ‘Ian’ that surely evoke a sort of underwater xmas vibe in the same way we hold AFX’s SAW 85-92 as a seasonal perennial.
