Named after Lisbon’s pivotal live venue *Rock Rendez Vous*, this compilation compiles tracks from a cassette-only fanzine series that documented local bands pushing post-punk, synthpop, goth, and garage sounds in Portugal's newly democratic cultural landscape. It's a snapshot of raw experimentation and unfiltered creativity in a scene still carving its own identity.
Featuring acts like Linha Geral, ADN, and Ik Mux, these tracks blend drum machine minimalism with nervy guitar textures, mutant funk, and shadowy atmospheres. Some sound closer to Factory Records; others nod to Neue Deutsche Welle or early French coldwave, but all carry the distinct accent of a Portugal reawakening through sound.
Lovingly restored and remastered by George Horn and Anne-Marie Suenram, and housed in a sleeve with photos and liner notes chronicling this era, *Música Moderna Portuguesa 1985–1986* is both historical document and lo-fi synth gem. Essential listening for fans of early Mute, Les Disques du Crépuscule, or the minimal synth underground.
