Drawing on the intensity of a transformative summer, the record unfolds as an intimate narrative where vulnerability becomes the driving force of her music.
Born in South Korea and based in Amsterdam, Chaerin Im has become one of the most compelling new voices in contemporary jazz. Having worked alongside Pablo Held, Ben van Gelder and Sun-Mi Hong, and earning recognition as NRCโs Young Artist of the Year in 2024, she now leads the Chaerin Im Quartet. With appearances at BIMhuis and the North Sea Jazz Festival, her artistry has evolved into a unique blend of jazz roots, indie influences and electronic textures.
With *Midnight Resets* she departs from her reputation as an acoustic improviser, venturing into a sound world built on synths, ambient colours and singer-songwriter sensibilities. Melodies are crafted to be direct and memorable, moving between moments of melancholy and playful brightness. It is a deliberate shift away from pure improvisation towards a more crafted, post-produced expression.
The albumโs title reflects the central idea of beginning anew, asking: โWould I make the same decisions if everything reset every midnight?โ This thought became both inspiration and guiding principle, giving the record its spirit of renewal. In translating these reflections into sound, Chaerin Im offers not only her most personal work to date, but also an invitation for listeners to embrace change and possibility in their own lives.
