Teranga Beat continues its essential work restoring the legacy of this short-lived but ferocious ensemble from Thiès. Vol. 2 compiles more unreleased tapes from 1981–1985, featuring razor-sharp horns, wah-heavy guitars, sabar polyrhythms, and the distinct interplay of griot vocals and fuzz-laden psych overtones.
The intensity never lets up. Tracks like “Am Sa Waye” and “Ndiguele” showcase the band’s hybrid force—somewhere between Afro-Cuban, West African traditional forms, and raw electric heat. But there’s also space for midtempo reflection, where modal melodies float over swirling percussion beds.
Restored from reel tapes and expertly mastered, this LP is a vital piece of Senegalese music history—an uncompromising dancefloor weapon and archival treasure in equal measure.
