Released in 1996 during one of the most turbulent moments in hip-hop history, the album arrived after Dr. Dre’s departure from Death Row and shortly after the death of Tupac Shakur. Instead of trying to recreate his debut, Snoop leaned into a more laid-back and introspective approach, carried by his unmistakable flow and the warm production of Daz Dillinger, DJ Pooh and Soopafly.

Tracks like “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head”, “Vapors” and “Doggfather” show Snoop redefining his identity while keeping the deep basslines and melodic swing that shaped the golden era of West Coast rap.
