"Inspired by the 1970s sound of ECM Records, McCormick's latest album encapsulates the mood of sky-watching and the calmness of peaceful, beautiful places by looping drones on tape and improvising with organic instruments layered with effects such as reverb, tremolo, and delay.
Words from the artist:
"Itโs been a long time since I last recorded an album - a break of some 40 years! Passing Clouds now builds on my earlier retrospective work on โLight Patternsโ and โSticklebacksโ released in the past few years by the wonderful Smiling C label. I still have a daily obsession of writing tunes and experimenting with sound and was recently inspired to record again. On Passing Clouds, I have tried to capture my love of sky watching and of being in peaceful places. I set about my sessions, as always, alone with my electric/acoustic guitars and bass, playing through simple analog equipment such as valve reverb, tremolo and tape delay. I use a violin bow to get the drone and ambient sounds into a tape looper. Whilst working on the album, I tried hard to get the feel of my favourite ECM artists such as Collin Walcott, Ralph Towner, John Abercrombie and Eberhard Weber - my heroes! They are as inspiring to me now as they were in the 70s." - Kevin McCormick"
