Spearheaded by band director Conrad O. Johnson at Houstonโs Kashmere High School, this student ensemble pushed the limits of high school musicianship, recording a string of albums between the late '60s and late '70s that rivaled the energy and skill of professional funk outfits of the time. Known for their fierce grooves, tight arrangements and raw energy, their recordings became rare collectorsโ items, with original LPs pressed in runs of 1000 copies or fewer and sold during national and international tours.
Revered by crate diggers, sampled by hip-hop producers, and praised by legends like Questlove and DJ Shadow, the KSB legacy has grown far beyond its school auditorium origins. P-VINEโs limited vinyl reissue campaign now brings these sought-after recordings back into circulation, some appearing on vinyl for the very first time. A vital reintroduction to one of the funkiest student bands to ever cut to wax.
