Written and recorded with minimal mediation, the album leans into folk tradition without being bound by it, allowing jazz phrasing, Portuguese song, and contemporary singer-songwriter sensibility to coexist naturally. Silence, space, and restraint play as important a role as melody, giving each song room to settle and resonate.
Lyrically, “Hortelã” moves through love, doubt, presence and emotional clarity with remarkable honesty. Maro’s delivery avoids theatrics, choosing instead a conversational intimacy that draws the listener closer with each phrase. The guitar work mirrors this approach — fluid, attentive, and responsive rather than decorative.
More than a collection of songs, “Hortelã” feels like a pause taken with intention: reflective, grounded, and quietly confident. It stands as one of Maro’s most personal works to date — an album that values truth over volume and connection over display.
