Born in the aftermath of Portugal’s Carnation Revolution and the independence movements led by PAIGC, MPLA, and FRELIMO, this record captures the voices of Cape Verdean workers from the islands of Sal and Santiago — singing songs that, until recently, were forbidden.

Songs of resistance, hunger, and hope recorded during a moment of immense transition: political liberation met by drought, famine, and the slow unravelling of colonial damage.

These aren’t polished studio tracks. They’re field recordings of resilience — echoes of communal strength, carried in rhythm and voice. A vital piece of cultural memory and post-colonial sound history.
