Long known for his percussive, rhythm-forward productions, Djrum brings his childhood instrument — the piano — to the centre of the album, allowing improvisation, fragility and physical presence to shape the music. Inspired in part by performance art and the human body as an expressive medium, the record uses breathing, whispers and restrained vocal lines to blur the line between electronic composition and intimate performance.

Tracks unfold with a careful balance between precision and emotion. Strings and synths engage in call-and-response, rhythms swell and dissolve, and club-rooted energy is repeatedly softened by acoustic intervention. Moments of techno pressure, jungle acceleration and broken-beat complexity sit alongside reflective passages where melody and space take precedence.

Rather than abandoning his earlier language, Djrum reframes it — folding years of rhythmic experimentation into a more vulnerable, expressive framework. “Portrait With Firewood” feels like both a summation and a transformation: a record that documents artistic growth while exposing the person behind the machines, imperfect, searching, and fully present.
