Futuro Familiar
KETU
đđđđ by Alex Zhang Hungtai, Pedro Alves Sousa, Gabriel Ferrandini & David Maranha is a deeply immersive, slowly-unfolding work of ritual music-meets-experimental improvisation.
Recorded live at Galeria ZĂ© dos Bois (Lisbon) in 2017, the two side-long pieces (âKetuâ) span nearly 40 minutes full of percussive pulses, flutes, electronics, saxophone, and organ. The performances move between quiet ritual momentum and densifying texture, offering moments of sparse breath and others of overwhelming, layered intensity.
Pedro Alves Sousa, who also mixed and edited the record, shapes the raw improvisations into expansive terrainâsometimes tribal, sometimes spectralâgrounded by fluid interplay among percussionists and wind instruments. Hungtaiâs saxophone lines drift like echoes in a cavern of sound; Maranha and Ferrandiniâs flutes and electronics add spiritual weight.
Limited to 300 copies on vinyl, "Ketu" from Futuro Familiar is both an artifact and an experienceâa record made for deep, patient listening and for those who seek music that lives in the thresholds between ambient, jazz, ritual and noise.
