Tropa Macaca

𝘼 𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙚, Animais Sintéticos brings together two pieces by Portuguese duo Tropa Macaca, originally conceived as immersive installations.

Presented at GNRation in Braga (2022) and PADA in Barreiro (2020), the works Animais Sintéticos and Aerossol combined music with paintings and video by Joana da Conceição, creating environments where the audible and the visible intertwined. These exhibitions acted as distinct pacts between sound, image and the world itself, opening new perceptual and sensorial spaces.

Formed in Lisbon in 2005, Tropa Macaca is the duo of André Abel and Joana da Conceição. Their music, often described as poetic and autonomous, unfolds with its own dynamism, manifesting forces that transcend conventions of knowledge or genre.

Animais Sintéticos captures this vision in recorded form, a document of Tropa Macaca’s exploratory practice where repetition, texture and abstraction converge into a sound that is both visceral and transcendent.
