Released in 1999 on XL Recordings, “Electricity” is one of The Avalanches’ earliest and most exuberant statements — a kaleidoscopic collage of disco, funk, breaks, and surreal sampling that already hinted at their magpie brilliance. It’s chaotic, warm, and irresistibly funky, driven by chopped vocal snippets and live band energy filtered through the group’s irreverent sense of play.

While the title track became a leftfield club hit, the EP as a whole reveals the band’s wild stylistic range — from cut-and-paste hip hop energy to shimmering downtempo textures. “Electricity” captures that turn-of-the-millennium spirit when anything felt possible on the sampler, foreshadowing the sonic world-building that would make The Avalanches one of the most beloved and inventive acts of their generation, remixed by DJ Harvey and Dj Sneak.
