Priscilla Ermel
Origens Da Luz
𝘼 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚, Origens Da Luz gathers recordings made by Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Priscilla Ermel between 1986 and 1994, reissued in 2025 by Music From Memory.
Raised in a musical family in São Paulo, Ermel developed her craft on cello and guitar before moving into a personal exploration that blended songcraft, anthropology and film. Her work draws from Brazilian traditions while also embracing field recordings, indigenous instruments and electronic textures, reflecting a vision of music as both cultural memory and universal language.
Influenced by her studies with Taoist master Liu Pai Lin and her time living with indigenous communities, Ermel created a sound that merges the contemplative pace of Tai Chi with a vibrant Brazilian spirit. The result is music that feels simultaneously ancient and modern, resonant with natural and human worlds alike.
Compiled by John Gómez and presented as a double LP, Origens Da Luz illuminates Priscilla Ermel’s singular artistic journey, offering listeners an expansive entry into a body of work that is deeply rooted yet endlessly exploratory.
