The real heat on this 12” comes from the remixes: The Dust Brothers jack the track into a swaggering, sample-twisted big-beat strut, all low-end pressure and breakbeat grit; The Toxic Trio push it further into sleaze-fuelled rave abrasion; and, most notably, The Sabres of Paradise rework it into a smouldering, dubbed-out midnight cruiser.

On the Sabres version, Andrew Weatherall and Jagz Kooner stretch the song into a long, narcotic glide — bass pulsing like a slow electrical current, guitars dissolving into vapor trails, drums collapsing into echo and haze. It’s the sound of Screamadelica’s afterimage refracted through darker lenses: spacious, hypnotic and quietly incendiary.

As a set, these mixes turn “Jailbird” into a prism of 90s UK subculture, showing just how far one song can bend when filtered through the era’s most visionary hands.
